Music Together Certification Level 1
Sarah grew up in a family where music was always playing. Her father was a primary school teacher and believed strongly in the importance of music. She has many happy memories of her dad on guitar and the rest of the family singing along - albeit out of tune at times but having fun!
Sarah spent much of her youth singing in school and community choirs and playing the trumpet in concert bands, small ensembles and solo work. She continued her love of music by playing with the Perth Concert Band from 1989 to 2000 at which point she discovered swing dancing and traded in her trumpet for dancing shoes!
Sarah has Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy. She spent the first part of her working life in brain injury rehabilitation and when she finally discovered Music Together she was struck with how complementary the principles of the Music Together program was to the core values of occupational therapy.
Sarah's first contact with Music Together was in 2009 when she took her 9 month old son, Finn, along to a class. She was impressed with the quality and variety of the music it provided - they were songs that she didn't mind listening to over and over and over again! Sarah had so much fun and felt so energized by the weekly experience that she decided to follow her instincts and pursue this new career path.
Sarah then completed the Music Together teacher training in the summer of that year and then interned and taught for East Bay Music Together (in San Francisco), one of the largest Music Together schools worldwide.
Following her family's return back to Perth in November 2010 and the subsequent birth of her second child Audrey, she began to miss both teaching classes and also being a participant in the program with her own children. There was only one other school teaching the Music Together curriculum in Australia at the time, so Sarah decided to take the leap of faith and apply for a director's license to start up her own school - Music Together with Sarah.
Sarah is passionate about the philosophy, the music and the research based program that Music Together offers. She loves how creating music never fails to lift her spirits and especially loves the community group experience that Music Together facilitates.
Sarah looks forward to meeting you and your children and sharing many music making moments together.
